Patrick Stewart has been awarded with "The
Order of the British Empire" OBE British honours are awarded
on merit, for exceptional achievement or service. King George V
in 1917 created this honour during World War 1 to reward services
to the war effort by civilians at home and servicemen in support
positions. The orders are now awarded mainly to civilians and
service personnel for public service or other distinctions it has
a military and a civil division.
Patrick
Stewart, known for such hit sci-fi characters as Capt. Jean-Luc
Picard and Prof. Charles Xavier, tied with the knot with Wendy
Neuss on Saturday. The couple first met eight years ago when
Wendy, 39, was a production assistant on Star Trek: The Next
Generation Although the relationship has been stable four years,
Stewart could not marry until his divorce - to his ex-wife of 25
years - went through. Trek co-star Brent Spiner, a.k.a. Data, was
the best man at the glittering ceremony, which took place at a
lakeside mansion in Los Angeles.
Patrick Stewart Tells The Times newspaper that he expected the
Star Trek 10 film to be his last. Stewart also decided to comment
about The Next Generation. "I found the longer the series
went on, the fewer I wanted to watch. I think that was because in
the last couple of years I was fighting boredom. I think we kept
the standard pretty consistent, but creatively I was bored and
frustrated.

I would like to add to this, and this is a personal observation,
Patrick be careful not to start putting down Star Trek, who do
you think watches you at the theatre, and your movies, the people
who have come to know you as Jon Luc Picard. Sorry my friend but
not many of us knew you befor this, don't turn your back on us
all, we are in fact your biggest audience, as I have said in my
other pages, without Star Trek we would never have known of the
actor called Patrick Stewart. You are indeed a great actor
Patrick. Thanks in part to Star Trek that gave you your biggest
platform and audience "EVER:( "And we still watch these
tapes many years after the series ended.------ddu
May 21st, he received an honorary doctoral degree from the Juilliard School in New York City. Last April, he received the American Theatre Wing award along with actors Ossie Davis, Kevin Kline, Jason Robards and Sam Waterston.
